Why Sending a Quote Isn’t the Finish Line
Your team spends time putting together a great quote. The pricing is competitive, the garments are selected, the turnaround works, and the proposal is sent.
Then… nothing.
A few days pass, so they send a quick email that says, “Just checking in.” Another week goes by. Still no response. Eventually they assume they lost the job and move on.
The problem is, they probably didn’t lose it. They simply stopped selling.
Customers get busy. Projects get pushed down the priority list. Decision-makers are on vacation. Finance hasn’t approved the purchase yet. The quote gets buried in an inbox. Most of the time, silence isn’t a “no.” It’s just life getting in the way.
The shops that consistently win more business understand that sending the quote isn’t the finish line. It’s the beginning of the closing process. They don’t disappear after hitting send. They stay engaged and make it easier for the customer to buy.
That doesn’t mean sending endless “just checking in” emails. Good follow-up provides value. Remind them about an upcoming in-hands date, let them know inventory is getting tight, suggest a better garment option, or answer questions they haven’t asked yet. Every touchpoint should give the customer a reason to respond.
The easiest way to improve your close rate is to stop relying on memory and build a simple follow-up process. Every quote should have the next few touchpoints planned before it’s sent. A call two days later. A helpful email a few days after that. Another follow-up the following week if needed. Consistency beats good intentions every time.
If you’re only measuring how many quotes you send, you’re measuring the wrong thing. Measure how many quotes turn back into conversations. That’s where orders are won.
Sending the quote gets you into the game. Thoughtful follow-up is what wins it.
